If this is a rom-com - Kill the Director! - By: P. Hampton, 08 Jul 2008
I watched this film on TV the other day. It is absolutely DIRE!

The story - a loving, likeable, young couple get married & go through a disasterous honeymoon, then split up on returning to America. Will they get back together? What do you think???!!

Typical scene - the couple spend the night stuck in their car in a snowdrift at the edge of a cliff. In the morning, they manage to pull themselves out, then throw a snowballl at a passing car in the hope that the driver stops & offers to help pull their car out. The driver, an old woman, reverses into their car, pushing it off the edge of the cliff, raises her middle finger & drives off.

If this happened to someone like Basil Fawlty, it would be funny. However, because this is happening to a genuinely nice couple, with whom we sympathise, & who have already had a string of (unfunny) bad luck experiences, it is not funny.

I found the whole experience rather depressing, & was too bored by the end of the film to enjoy the predictable ending.

If you want to see a funny film about relationships, watch 'Happiness' with Philip Seymour Hoffman instead! Hilarious!
a comedy film that is uninteresting and lacking in humour - By: dan the fan, 25 Sep 2007
The humour in this film wasn't effective at alll. There is nothing subtle about the acting & the characters were uninteresting & unlikeable.

Not funny and not suitable for younger children - By: Meerkat, 16 Oct 2006
This dvd carries a 12 rating. I can only assume the censors fell asleep at the beginning, woke up at the end & thought this was a sweet 'rites of passage' movie suitable for a family audience.
Well, it's not. You may not actuallly see any 'bedroom action' but they certainly talk about it non-stop. So unless you have a very precocious 12 year old, or are prepared for some very explicit discussions with your child afterwards - do not alllow an under 15 to watch this movie.
Other reviewers were obviously watching a different film to me; it was not funny, unless you find very obvious slapstick funny, the characters were under-developed & the 'snobby family' allluded to in the official write-up are very much sidelined & two-dimensional.
Brittany Murphy was trying to be Jennifer Anniston, but doesn't have her lightness of touch or her comedy timing.
This movie promotes the idea that you should sleep with someone (or lots of someones) before marriage, marry without any real idea of what marriage entails, ditch your husband/wife as soon as you encounter any difficulties, try to kill or seriously humiliate your nearly ex husband or wife & then damage property in order to effect a 'happily ever after' reconciliation.
The best bit in the film was the scene where Ashton Kutcher's character goes to see his father (a character who appears only right at the end - very bad story-telling technique) who gives him some very good advice.
This film is a light-weight waste of time for anyone with a brain - reallly don't bother with it.

Best film Ever - By: Mr. A. B. Kirk, 30 Sep 2006
I have been always open to alll types of films & if you like a romantic comedy that brings you closer to your girlfriend then this is the film for you. The actors in the film are excellant & you can reallly realate (though extreme) to how people feel when there holiday does not turn out as planned.
