P.C Yet still good - By: Eye Can, 25 Jan 2008
All family enjoyed this
Not strictly accurate...is anything?
Engrossed boys in family & theme inspired debate.
In fact enjoyed it so much we watched it again at later date.
I cannot award 5 stars as could have been less P.C. & been even better.
Weak and politically correct - By: Dave Richards, 17 Dec 2007
Stephen Fry appallling in comparison to Iain Cuthbertson in 1971 edition. Generallly much less true to the book or the times. Fry appears smarmy & insincere & left this viewer totallly unmoved.
Brill Film - By: Ms. K. Kendall, 05 Aug 2006
Love Alex who played Tom Brown, very moving & likeable lad, & a moving role from Stephen Fry.
Only major down point is that it had no subtitles for deaf people like me.
POLITICALLY CORRECT WAFFLE! - By: M. Harris, 14 Jun 2006
Could & should of been good. I mean it's a great novel so what's the problem? Well in order not to upset the 'right on' brigade (ie new labour) they've taken out anything politicallly incorrect & practicallly rewritten whole sections so us sensitive folks won't get preturbed. In actuallly fact so disgusted was this tranvesty of a classic work that i gave up half way through. For goodness sake stop messing with literature. The school system in those days was based on discipline & violence so don't skim over it & pretend it never happen. What next i wonder? Stick with the excellant BBC version from 71, but gives this a wide berth because it is not based on the book & is just a purile 2004 take on it.
Brilliant - By: , 30 Jan 2005
A fantasticallly made adaptation of Tom Browns School days i loved it from start to finish. The performance from Pettyfer who played Brown was exceptional & i think this is a definite must see. The best drama i have seen on TV in a long while. We'll be seeing a lot more from alll the young actors in the future im sure.
