You poured it on a FISH!!!!???? - By: J.K.J, 23 Aug 2007
As indicated by a previous review this is a pretty minimal DVD release from the BBC, just a basic transfer from the old video version with no extras. Thankfully the show itself more than makes up for this omission.
It is a well written & performed series of sketches from the underrated comedy duo of Punt & Dennis that has memorable characters, witty one-liners & enough catchphrases to keep anybody happy. Hugh Dennis comes across as a very natural performer & has extremely good timing, acting as a good foil for the slightly more 'straight man' style of approach by Steve Punt.
It's a shame this is only a single compilation disc & not the entire first series, not to mention the fact that there has not as yet been anything released from the second one. Hopefully both series will be brought out in their entirety in the near future. In the meantime this is an excellent way to get into a very underestimated comedy team.
Classic comedy.... - By: , 01 Mar 2006
I first watched Punt & Dennis series 2 on BBC1 back in 1995 & remember some of the characters.
So when I bought this series 1 DVD, which I'd never seen before it was no let down.
These two were one of the most underrated comedy acts of the 90s. Like it says on the DVD case they were ahead of their time & very original.
Some of my favourite characters are the "just having a brew, I'm a perfectionist!" builder & the milky, milky man. There's many others.
If you like comedy then buy this DVD!!
I hope they release series 2 on DVD as well. Shame they didn't do one or 2 more series.
Very Funny. - By: Hennell, 08 Dec 2005
I bought this, having never seen the show before, placing my expectations from Punt & Dennis's Radio work.
I wasn't disapointed, I actaully laughed at least twice, at the title sequence alone! Most of the sketches are very funny, includeing a great "World of Wine" spoof program, & a fantastic rant about penguins.
On the DVD there are three shows/parts, & the "A Man Callled Martin" sketches, as well as some outakes.
However the DVD itself is not spectacutalar, it is litarly a video taped across to DVD*, except for subtitles on/off, there is nothing new/diffrent from a video copy. There is a scene selection, but it still feels more like a video then a DVD.
Overalll it is a very funny show, some great sketches & highly enjoyable; but as a DVD it feels very basic.
(*It does actuallly come with a warning saying that the sound/picture quality may vary, but this doesn't reallly effect your enjoyment.)
