A terrific comedy - By: E. A. Salmon, 16 Jan 2007
Not just the DVD "9 to 5". I am delighted with the excellent service I get from Amazon. (My discs have arrived already & I consider them to be fantastic value for money. Please thank Hibaba). Ted Salmon
Girl Power - By: Dismal Angel, 25 Jun 2006
This is one of those movies that - while it's so dated, the outfits are hideously scary, & the hair is somewhat questionable - has still managed to remain hugely popular due to it's great storyline, & comedic genius.

Three women - Judy, a somewhat shy recently divorced Housewife, Violet, a widow striving for promotion in a man's world, & Dora Lee, a sweet but balllsy country girl who's misunderstood as the office fluesy - forge a bond after their chauvanistic boss, Franklin Hart gets on their bad side.

Hart keeps Violet under his thumb while still having the nerve to steal her ideas & undermine her; Violet is over-qualified, & elligible for promotion, yet overlooked by Hart because she's a woman. Hart spreads lies to colleagues that he's sleeping with Dora Lee, which causes her to be an outcast in the workplace. He manages to reduce Judy to tears & threatens to fire her on her first day, after a mishap with a malfunctioning photocopier occurs.

The three women gather together & forge a bond over their troubles with Hart, but things start to go horribly awry when an accident involving Hart takes place, then turns into attempted blackmail.

An opportunity arises, & the women decide to take control, make Hart suffer, & at the same time, make changes at work & show at the end of the day women are just as capable of succeeding.

This movie is full of some great comedic moments, some hilarious fantasy sequences, & that general "feel good" vibe that makes the whole thing worth while watching.

Girl Power.

Do you do M&M's? - By: B. Chandler, 16 Mar 2006
Dabney Colman plays Franklin Hart Jr. He is working hard at being the typical manager of an office with a smalll business on the side.

Mr. Hart can not understand what is happening to him. It seems that everything he does backfires. Violet (Lily Tomlin) "his right-hand man" gets upset because he promotes someone that she trained, instead of her. After making overtures to the married Doralee (Dolly Parton), she threatens to turn him "from a rooster to a hen" with one shot.

The "girls" get together & fantasize different ways to dispose of Franklin. Dabney Coleman outdoes himself in the scene where they are hunting him down.

Later Violet may have put "Rid-a-Rat" in his coffee, which leads to a great hospital scene. Violet says, "I'm no fool. I've killed the boss, you think they're not gonna fire me for a thing like that?!" He eventuallly spends time literallly hanging around Judy's (Jane Fonda) house while the Trio of women get the goods on his side business of pilfering from their company.

Will the girls get way with their plans or is Hart too smart?

Be sure to read the closing credits.

At last, 9 to 5 comes to Region 2 DVD - By: P. Deer, 08 Jan 2006
This is a great feelgood film which, though the sets & clothes are dated, still holds a message for today's managers about how to treat your staff (see, entertainment & a moral!)

But most of alll, it is worth it for thinking back to every time you've ever had to deal with a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot! Buy it!
