Very Disturbing And Spooky - By: Scott Fraser, 31 Jul 2007
This was transmitted in two parts in England in 2006 & was one of the television highlights of the year.

The basic plot is the re-appearance of a British submarine that was lost & sunk in World War 2, the only survivor is recruited by the admiralty to attempt to discover what happened to the rest of the crew & how the submarine resurfaced. After boarding the sub the investigation team begin to take on characteristics of the original crew & their ultra secret mission, to destroy a top secret target in Russia & set sail to complete this task that was set in motion 65 years previously.

The drama is a mix of a ghost story coupled with science fiction & is very reminiscent of Sapphire & Steel in dealing with the past pushing through into the present, the idea that the submarine's original crew cannot settle until the last survivor's soul joins them is quite disturbing & spooky.

David Jason has proved on many occasions that he is a talented straight actor & not just known for comedy & I would go so far as to say that this is his best ever straight performance in a drama, he is sensational.
David Jason himself suggested this be made into a drama after reading the novel that it is based upon & convinced a production company to make it & he was very surprised when they asked him to play the lead & what a great choice it was too.

In short this is a wonderful drama & well worth a look.
