A song, a song, high above the trees - By: Amanda Richards, 19 Dec 2008
"Listen. Can you hear it? The music. I can hear it everywhere. In the wind... in the air... in the light. It's alll around us."
Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):
1. Boy musician (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) meets girl musician (Keri Russell) & they make beautiful music up on the roof before going their separate ways
2. Little orphan boy (Freddie Highmore) hears music in the wind & feels a connection to the parents he never knew
3. Desperately seeking parents, he winds up in New York City where he is taken in (in more ways than one) by a man named Wizard (Robin Williams, channeling Fagin)
4. He discovers a previously dormant musical talent, & impresses everyone
5. Fairytale ending will leave you asking or more
This movie is actuallly a modern day fairy tale, with an incredibly talented cast & a fantastic soundtrack. In fact, it is the music that makes it so special, & I can't recommend it highly enough. This is one to own & watch over & over again.
"All you have to do is open yourself up. All you have to do... is listen."

Rush To Buy This One ! - By: Widescreen Wesley, 04 Dec 2008
Simply great feelgood movie & heartwarming storyline (and shhhh....happy ending). This is a massive & wonderful change from a lot of the cynical movies being churned out by Hollywood at this time. Do yourself a favour, buy this to watch over the holiday season, curled up on the sofa with a mince pie, a glass of wine & the love of your life:-)
You'll watch it over and over again! - By: Michelle Plater, 06 Oct 2008
This film is fantastic. I rented it & watched it 5 times before I took it back & then ordered one from Amazon. I'm not in the habit of watching films repeatedly, & neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"!
Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, & even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)
Watch - listen - and enjoy!! - By: Louise Amkaer, 01 Oct 2008
"August Rush" is beautiful - the kind of beautiful that will make you laugh & cry, even though it has a foreseeable ending & it has a distinct Oliver Twist-y flair.
"August Rush" is about the 11-year-old Evan, who has lived his entire life as an orphan, hearing music emanating from the world around him. The opening scene, where Evan is standing in a field of wheat, moving in the wind, perfectly encapsules this. Even is sure that his parents are out there & runs away from the orphanage/home. He arrives in New York & is guided by music.
Music plays a crucial role in "August Rush". There is the classical cello for the mother, lead rock guitar & song for the father, the blues harmonica for the Fagan-character Wizard, & the composit sound of the city/environment for the searching Evan. Anybody in the movie has their own sound/music.
For those of you who fear a too-sweet movie, let me say that there is no overly romantic and/or cheasy finale. THAT scene has thankfully been omitted.
Oh yes, I have to mention the cast. This is one of those movie with a great ensemble casts. Robin Williams' eccentric & slightly crazy Wizard does seem a little on the over-played side, but the rest of the cast fill their roles to perfection.
Watch - listen - & enjoy!!

Rubbish - By: GG, 21 Sep 2008
Looked promising so we took a chance on it however this proved to be a big mistake! Judging by the other reviews on here I think this is one of those love it or hate it films & we falll into the later catagory. The film is slow moving, totallly unrealistic & poorly acted even though the actual cast is a good one. Overalll I would say this is one of the worst films we have ever seen!
