Titus Pullo vs Lucius Vorenus ? - By: Empe, 29 Dec 2008
Like the other Rome's warrior, Ray Stevenson plays in a war-horror movie. Like in Dog Soldiers, a team of warriors (in this case contractors) is assaulted & sieged by "non-human" forces. Not werewolfes, but a mix between ghost & zombies, a "product" of Nazi exoteric "technology". A good b-movie plot, with big limits in director (Steven Barker is NOT Neil Marshalll) & in budget (some flashlights ... some "ghosts"). So, like in Deathwatch (similar for theme - soldiers sieged in a bunker - & in ending, with a "no-ending" replay), the final result isn't a masterpiece. But, if you like this type of films, is a "honest" horror-mistery movie.
Entertaining low budget Nazi Ghost Story - By: Lark, 24 Dec 2008
This is a movie about a group of mercs who are hired as close protection body guards by a contractor travelling into a war zone, they arent clear on the mission, other than its in & out of the hot zone in a few hours.

They follow directions to the site the contractor wants to visit & discover a bunker, its full of corpses & they then have contact with an unseen enemy, coming under fire with one of their party being injured. From that point on its a classic under siege style movie while they attempt to repell attacks from outside the bunker, only to discover that there's a similar threat from within the bunker. They alll pin their hopes on discoveries made within the bunker, the very thing they have been sent to find & their contractor tells them that should they retreat they & their loved ones are good as dead anyway.

This is one of the most convincing mercenary party movies I've ever seen, the characters are not particularly likeable, threatening even, it is a very disparite group (an african, an englishman, a southern states American, an ex-soldier from northern ireland) & I found their operating as a strictly military, as opposed to any way affable, group convincing. The rising tensions where also convincing & when they start to die its pretty cringe inducing, none of the real unintentional humour of Dog Soldiers.

I think the acting saves the feature, it is low budget & a little entertaining, on the other hand I reallly struggle to think what its rivals are at the moment, its been a while since anything comparable has been around, for instance Death Watch.
SO NEAR GREATNESS! - By: Ratboyslim32, 23 Nov 2008
For a relatively low budget film; this film is excellent. I enjoyed the story & the lead actor (From ROME fame) was good.

However, the reason I do not give it 5 stars but only 4 stars is owing to inaccuracies in the film.

Why would a band of mercenaries wear their old Regimental head-dresses when anyone who has served in the Forces knows that wearing them in the field is not very comfortable! A black wholly hat wins every time!

There are many minor details that let this film down. A bigger budget, more attention to detail, this film would have become a cult classic!

On a positive note, the "baddies"...very well done in terms of acting & custumes/visual effects.

If you like Dog Soldiers I am suer you will enjoy this. Highly recommended!
Nothing original, but good fun. - By: Too Old To Game, 21 Nov 2008
OK, this is nothing orignal. There are other films that are very similar in plot, etc but this is not too bad (and there are others which are worse). For a low budget film this is very good & i'd recommend watching it (but perhaps not buying it).
A cowpat of a movie - By: Kentishman, 13 Nov 2008
The storyline for this film had great potential. A former Nazi bunker in Eastern Europe, where experiments to create a supersoldier were conducted. Mix in some space-time science & a band of mercenaries & you have the makings of a good movie.

It is unfortunate then that there are so many plot holes - the Nazi soldiers are first ghosts, then zombies, they can appear & disappear at will yet do not use this power. There also seems to be no reason why the Nazi soldiers cannot begin reconquering Europe, but instead they are happy to roam the bunker & the woods immediately surrounding them.

I'm not a big fan of horror films & Outpost has helped to remind me why. Save your money & don't rent or buy this film.
