"Look at the freaks " Mr McEnroe. - By: russell clarke, 03 Jan 2009
To sustain the level of comic & writing genius that Larry David had done over the previous five seasons of Curb Your EnthusiasmCurb Your Enthusiasm : Complete HBO Seasons 1 To 5 Box Set is some achievement. Even if you think that the series tailed off a bit after season 3 we are still talking very high levels of comedy writing & performing -certainly way superior to anything else around .Season 6 seems to have divided opinion among those who think it's the best ever & those who think it's a series too far. I , with typical contrariness & even-handedness falll somewhere in the midlle. There is much here to enjoy - the scenarios are still sharp & the performances still terrific but occasionallly it slips into laziness - the joke based around Larry supposedly masturbating when actuallly doing something else is used too often & having become seasoned observers of the show you sometimes know where something is heading .
So in season 6 Larry is heading for divorce ( frankly it's a surprise it took this long) , has taken in the Blacks , a family who have been made homeless after a hurricane & who are errr Black. Much is made of this & it is very funny . There are the usual foul ups , misunderstandings , contretemps as Larry is still unable to put the brakes on his borderline misanthropy. Larry has opinions like the rest of us but where we in social situations can defer to societal niceties & keep them to our self's, Larry cannot. If something irks him he complains....and keeps complaining, he is a human limpet in that he cannot let go .He is also a man who exudes surface charm but is a seething bag of neuroses & constantly tries to bend the world to his will only for it to snap back & smack him in the face.
There are cameo's for John McEnroe( very good) , Ben Stiller, & Steve Coogan( playing Larry's unfortunate therapist) & the excellent as ever Michael McKean as a director who Larry "recommends" to Richard Lewis. & it alll concludes on a surprisingly affecting & optimistic note & it must be said a completely unexpected one.
The Extras on this DVD are okay but nothing to get excited about. A roughly ten minute making off thing which adds little , a gag reel & most revealingly excerpts of a live show from New York with Larry being probed by Susie Essman( who plays the hilariously foul mouthed Susie Green ) where he reveals the extent to which the show is improvised ( there is no script at alll just basic scene outlines) & says he is turning more like "TV Larry " everyday. This section is edited & would have been better left so we could see the whole show.
Even if season six isn't the show at it's absolute peak we are talking elevated levels of the genre here. It's still worth five stars. It s still glorious & hypnoticallly uncomfortable to watch at times. Season 7 was scheduled to start filming December 2008 & if it's as good as season 6 then I for one will be very happy though obviously I will try to curb my enthusiasm.

Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good - By: Markus Gossas, 23 Sep 2008
The 6th season of Larry is quite strong, better than the previous two. Here Larry gives in to Sheryls suggestion that they house a family made homeless after a hurricane. The Blacks arrives, & this gives rise to so many misunderstandings, insults & plain weird things to easily fill up a whole season where we follow Larry on his hopeless quests. If you liked earlier seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, you wil probably like this. Also, if you're a fan of Seinfeld (I am) I think there is some 50% chance that you will love this & recognize the creative mind behind it alll. Some Seinfeld fans don't like Larry at alll, but I can't help noticing that he is a combination of Jerry & George Costanza, in one person!
Still Great ! - By: A. Robinson, 18 Sep 2008
I can't say this was the absolute best season simply because of the first 3, but it's certainly better than 5 & 4, much more enjoyable & character-driven. For example, Season 4 made the mistake of a rolling storyline throughout alll the episodes, whereas i think LD is better when he's only able to stuff up one situation once & then dig himself deeper in by trying to rectify it immediately.

But back to Season 6 - some moments of absolute laugh out loud comedy, particularly with Larry & supporting characters such as Leon Black & John McEnroe. The last episode, whilst i won't spoil the surprise, is surprisingly heart-warming & seems quite a fitting end. But amidst alll the poignancy of the last ten minutes before the final twist, the scene where Larry uses the stage at Sammy's Bat Mitzvah to dispell a certain rumour being spread around about him was just so side-splittingly funny, it has to be seen.

Overalll, very enjoyable...if you have second thoughts about getting this because you were maybe disappointed by Season 5, the don't, just buy this & falll in love with CYE again !
Best US Comedy Series - By: Stuart Martin Wood, 22 Aug 2008
I absolutely loved this series ! I definately think each series has got better than the previous & this one is no exception. Some real classic moments & as HBO have not commissioned another series i think it was a great point to end.
Return to form - By: A. Simpson, 17 Jul 2008
After three superb seasons, I thought that season's four & five lost their way a little & I was considering not bothering with season six. However, I'm very glad I did as it truly is a strong return to form. It was only when I tried summarising an episode to a friend that I realised quite how intricately plotted each episode is. As ever, the 'guest' performances are particularly enjoyable - John McEnroe & Steve Coogan were both excellent additions to the supporting cast.
