Can a sequence be as good if not better than the original? - By: B. Chandler, 14 Jun 2008
You bet it can. Especiallly if you do not view them back-to-back. Usuallly the first in a series is fresh & surprisingly different. It is not an easy thing to keep up the momentum. Well in "National Treasure II" they added momentum. It was great keeping alll our old friends & seeing how they progressed. It is not that Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) does not make a good villain, but I was sort of hoping that Ian Howe (Sean Bean) would have escaped to create more havoc. This film was packed with great actors but I think that the character Prof. Emily Appleton (Helen Mirren) was a double plus good edition.

Basic story is that the Gates family is once again besmirched by the mysterious Mitch Wilkinson. And the only way to clear the family name is to find the city of Cibola (see-bowl-uh) meaning the City of Gold. All his old comrades & some new ones, including mom, pitch in to help. Let's see what mischief they get into & will they get out unscathed or is this it for our adventurous troop.

one of the best films of the last few years!!! - By: E. White, 29 Mar 2008
it has everything that you could possible want; action, adventure...
a true seat gripping expreience which ends in a dumdumdum about page 47 which leaves room for a third instalment!!
right from the start it grabs your attention & keeps your mind thinking & wondering what will happen next... can't wait for it to come out on dvd will be BRILLIANT.
it is definately worth buying!!!
I liked it - as good as the first - By: SHANN, 21 Mar 2008
I was surprised that the second installlment of N.T was actuallly good. Usuallly sequels are very poor with lazy writing. N.C is not known for doing second films but this rare installlment is very cheesy but is definitely not a let down. Its fun with a steady pace. It has alll the ingredients of the first but with an expanded cast. It works well, Hlen Mirren did good. Therefore, I would suggest that fans of the first definitely invest in this.
Splendid (if a bit daft) romp in the Indiana Jones style - By: Hooligween, 13 Feb 2008
National Treasure 2 is an unusual sequel in that it out-performs the first film. It follows the same format of a globe-trotting treasure hunt with Nic Cage as the slightly daffy professor on the track of an historic mystery. However, NT2 positively galllops along from one clue to the next, dashing from the USA to Paris to London & back again -- just in time to burgle the two most well-protected buildings on the planet & then kidnap (!) the President.
NT2 isn't a serious film but it does have a very serious cast & an edge-of-the-seat director. So Cage is well supported by the likes of Harvey Keitel, Jon Voigt & Ed Harris (who plays the bad guy. Well, sort of. You'll see!). NT2 probably takes huge liberties with actual fact & historical events but it is tightly plotted & extremely enjoyable. Bad guys always drive (indestructible) Range Rovers, & James Bond ain't the only man to wear a dinner suit under a wetsuit.

The continuity is spotty in places, & Cage is guilty of mumbling some of what should be snappy one-liners. But we (two reasonably intelligent adults) enjoyed it from beginning to end & it's perfect entertainment for a mixed audience. NT2 isn't as outright silly as the final Lara Croft film, nor is it as pompous & slowly-paced as the Da Vince Code. It's a tense adventure romp, & it's set a pretty high standard for the Indiana Jones comeback...
