If You Liked Lord of the Rings - By: Nadia C. Ayoub, 06 Jan 2009
You'll love this movie. I know I was not the only one to sit through it ticking off the blatant parodies of Peter Jackson's LotR films on their fingers. The rescues from high towers by flying... well, they're gryphons, not eagles (but you see my point) against a stormy backdrop of clouds, the defiant flight from groups of black riders across fords... Don't get me wrong, I found my personal game of "Spot the Similarities" deeply enjoyable, but if you're looking for something deeply original in fantasy book-to-film cinema, this may not be your cup of tea.
The action's good. I was surprised by how much darker this film was than I remembered either the book or the original BBC televisation. I haven't seen the first of the new Narnia films, so I can't comment there. But there is a definite grim element to this film, so it's definitely not just entertaining to children. Adults should not be put off.
The cast are excellent. The effects are tasteful. The soundtrack is a triumph - I bought it pretty much the first day I saw the film (and I saw it three times at the cinema, which tells you how high my regard IS for this film).
The only thing that gives me pause is that I don't reallly feel I NEED a two disc special edition. I'd be perfectly happy with the film alone, on one disc. But this is a problem I have with a lot of DVD production, & not specific to this film. That said, if anyone could point me to a single disc edition, I'd be grateful.
Prince Caspian - By: Spider Monkey, 04 Jan 2009
In 'Prince Caspian' we return to an altered & savage Narnia & more fantasy adventure to delight the family. You get great affects, battle scenes, talking animals & a pretty close rendition of the book. I have to say that I found this more enjoyable than 'The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe' with the slightly darker elements to the story fitting the fantasy adventure theme a lot better. The children stars of this film annoy me as actors & Prince Caspians accent reminded me of Puss in Boots from Shrek at times, but overalll the acting was OK & didn't detract from the story. It manages to achieve what it set out to, that is, a fun family adventure & manages to keep you interested & watching for the duration, which didn't feel overly long as the story kept pushing forward. A good film that is worth watching if you were a fan of the first installlment or of fantasy films in general.
The worst film ever made - By: , 01 Jan 2009
Now you alll have seen Narnia 2 & that was abismal this film has sunk to a whole new level of pants. The Novel was or would have been 20x better then the film i grantee. I was so bord in the cinema that started chucking food (Popcorn) around the room & this old man who was around 70 by his looks & he gave me evils. Now this film is worse then enchanted & Jaws 4 & even the grudge. I would raver bye the film Doggy Poo! Its that bad I give this poor film 1/5 atchualy i must this is so bad its like watching High school mucisal! So Bad I would rather die then watch it again. I din't buy this poor exsuse for a film i was forced to see it & i reallly hated it & the reason i looked it up was to tell you it was abismal, so here i go! IT WAS ABISMAL
Dire rubbish - By: J. Lunt, 30 Dec 2008
I realise this is a childrens film... but it's dire. Like scream out loud dire. And long enough to make you wonder 'why did I just waste a significant part of my life to this?' The first half is pretty decent but then come the battle scenes. Moronic tosh. Oh so many pregnant pauses - mid battle - while people stop & gaze in to the distance... so many blatant copies of Lord Of The Rings scenes but without the style or competence... so many opportunities to kill the bad guy which are not taken... I walked away from the TV multiple times because it was, well, so crap. Frustrating crap at that. Avoid at alll costs & watch LOTR instead.
One of the Best films I've seen in years - By: CrashDive, 28 Dec 2008
Not a young kids film but adults to 9 year olds will love it & play it again & again. The best fantasy adventure film since the Lord of the Rings trilogy & at times it is better than LOTR.
I got this for my 3 boys (10-12) for Christmas. We sat down to watch it & from the open sequence it is alll out action with numerous twists & turns, that even I as a lifelong fan of the books was surprised constantly through the 2 hours & 20 odd mins with.
Its not a faithful adaption of the book but close enough but the changes to the original tale reallly work tremendously well & make this yarn exciting & surprising from start to finish.
The effects are as good as the best CGI & the characters superb, with many of them acting their socks off. I love the telmerine Lord Protector & his General & Lords, they reallly get the machiavellian aspect of the Court & its intrigues just right.
Prince Caspian & the young Kings & Queens are tremendous as well with just the right amount of seriousness & laughs. The other characters such as the dwarfs, centaurs & Reepicheep the mouse, well words fail me fantastic again.
Oh & lets not forget the White Witch who makes a quite seductive & scary entry for a short period.
This is a dark story with some real tear jerking moments & many awesome battle scenes.
The Lion,Witch,Wardrobe was tame for me, this is so very much better & quite honestly I find it hard to believe it is Disney.
One of the Best films I've seen in years.
