With nearly 35 years expertise in the DIY and home improvement retail market BQ Stores started in South England with the partnership of Richard Block and David Quayle. Initially known as Block & Quayle this was soon abbreviated to B&Q and the distinctive nationally recognized DIY chain brand was born.

The principle aim of the partners was for the BQ superstores to offer value, longer opening hours and a broader product range to everyone making them more open, friendly and less intimidating to the occasional DIY enthusiast than other retailers. This format remains today despite change in ownership and substantial expansion and mergers. With over 400 stores worldwide this represents over 24 million square feet of retail space. The vast majority of these BQ.com stores are located at prime out of town locations throughout the UK. The largest European store to be opened in the UK is at Trafford Park Manchester, at over 168,450 square feet this store is 3x Old Trafford's pitch size!
